For my part, I don’t get the point of electing a ceremonial president, as the Germans do. The President of the Bundesrepublik does nothing at all, but embody the spirit of the German nation or some such. Well, can’t someone who inherited the job “embody the spirit” just as well? Why elect someone to do nothing?
I think they ought to dig up Prinz von Hohenzollern and making him Konig von der Republik. It would be more entertaining than a faceless parade of semi-notables in sensible suits.
