Recent interview with my new favorite band:
Pitchfork: To “just“ be a rock band or a punk band is suddenly very novel and, to some folks, confusing. Do you feel that you‘re part of any particular scene?
Mark Perro: We’re not trying to create some fodder for a Village Voice article or anything. I never thought of us as any sort of big-picture thing– just a bunch of people trying to honestly express what they have to say. And the easiest vehicle for that has been rock’n’roll.
Nick Chiericozzi: It’s popular for bands to segregate their ideas now. A lot of times that manifests itself into, “OK, this is my Joy Division band, this is my whatever band.” We collectively agreed to just be ourselves; this group is an open forum for anything. We always like bands that don’t try to fit in– bands that are like: You can come to us.
MP: This is our band. That’s it. That’s the only philosophy we have.
The samples of their old album, Leave Home sound good: raw and sloppy yet hard and driving at the same time. Record Store Day purchases for sure.
This is from the new album:
