…and came from a long line of polygamists.

Obama Sr. was already married when he left Kenya to study at the University of Hawaii, where he married again. His American wife-to-be, Stanley Ann Dunham, was not yet 18 and unaware of his marital situation when she became pregnant with his namesake son in 1961.

Why, bring this up?

Because if Stacy McCain is right, then the media is readying the battlespace for how weird and odd them Mormons are, with their polygamy and magic underwear and such.

I guess polygamy is only bad when white people do it.

No. But the actions of a father should not be blamed on the son, particularly if the son has shown no support for it.

Mormonism had a long history of polygamy, before having a backlash against it.

Of course, that’s no reason to like or dislike Mitt Romney.

    1. Exactly. So we should assume that those determined to press it to the front of public consciousness are ignorant of this truth.

Or they’re playing on religious bigotry for political purposes.

  2. I’m pretty sure if a muslim ran for candidate, Islam’s allowance of poligamy wouldn’t be brought up.

  3. The mainstream Mormon church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, officially ended the practice of polygamy in 1890. There are practices within the LDS church that might seem strange, but polygamy isn’t one of them.

    1. And again, it’s a double standard. The media is anti-mormon, so they of course will try to put mormonism in a bad light, and as I said above, pretty sure that if it was a muslim, islamic polygamy wouldn’t be brought up.

      1. No, it probably wouldn’t be. And yet, I’m sure it will be (if it hasn’t already) with Mitt Romney.

But, even if it were brought up with a Muslim, it would be more relevant than if it were brought up with a Mormon.
